Alarm monitoring for public safety radio networks

One view of every alarm behind your radio network.

Good Dog Alerting collects the alarms from the microwave backhaul, sites and equipment that keep a P25 radio system on the air. It sorts out what matters and pages the people on call, by email, text message or phone call.

What it does

Collects alarms from your management systems

Receives SNMP traps from element managers such as Aviat ProVision Plus, decodes them with the vendor's MIBs and turns each one into a single alarm that is raised and later cleared.

Applies your rules

Every alarm type can be enabled, disabled, re-graded or routed, for the whole network or for one site. Maintenance windows and silences keep planned work from paging anyone.

Shows status by site

Operators see active alarms by site and severity, acknowledge them, add notes, and look back through history and reports.

Pages the right people

Alarms worth waking someone for go to contact points you define: email, on-call tools such as Grafana Cloud IRM, text messages and voice calls. Escalations stop as soon as someone acknowledges.

Built to stay up

Runs on three nodes with a replicated database, so the loss of one server doesn't stop alarms or pages.

Runs where you need it

On your own servers, hosted by us, or hybrid: a small collector at your site sends alarms out over HTTPS, with no inbound connections.

Text message and voice alerts

Good Dog Alerting can send alarm notifications by text message and phone call to the on-call staff of the organizations that use it, such as radio system administrators, technicians and network operations staff. These are operational alerts only. We never send marketing messages.

How people opt in

  1. Each person agrees with their employer, the organization that uses Good Dog Alerting, to receive alarm notifications on their mobile phone, typically as part of their on-call duties.
  2. An administrator at that organization adds the person's mobile number to a contact point in Good Dog Alerting. Before saving, the administrator must confirm in a consent dialog that each person listed has agreed. The checkbox is never pre-ticked, and the number isn't saved without it. We record who confirmed it, when, and the exact wording they agreed to.
  3. The number then receives one confirmation text with instructions for getting help and opting out. Alarm texts start after that.
